Tai Chi and Ba Gua Zhang
Tai Chi and Ba Gua Zhang
Gentle level – Perfect for those new to Tai Chi, the Fundamentals class presents the essence of Chen style Tai Chi in a simple set of movements called Silk Reeling Exercises. Easy to grasp, yet they are deep enough to practice for years. Circular and spiral motions delight your body, quickly increasing leg-strength, hip-flexibility and balance. Includes Chi Gung breath and energy work.
Medium level – Align with gravity, move with grace and find your centre with this traditional Chen-style 'Old Form'. Gradually and progressively you learn the original series of movements from which all other styles of Tai Chi developed. The grounded, spiraling motion brings feelings of profound satisfaction and fullness in the body. Some experience required - check with instructor William Tucker william@health-hub.ca
More vigorous than Tai Chi, Ba Gua is a traditional martial art that combines the graceful precision of dance, the mindfulness and stretching of yoga and the practicality of martial arts. Ba Gua, a sophisticated system of self-defense named after the Chinese Book of Changes, is known for the distinctive practice of Circle Walking, either slow and meditative or fast and vigorous. These classes provide a whole-body workout, develop dynamic footwork, open the hips, strengthen the back and are great for building balance and core strength.
